Baseball & "Bernie"

From Bob

While I am not promoting the movie, I must confess that I have seen "Weekend at Bernie's" and I laughed at many of the scenes. It was a 1989 comedy where some wild and outrageous characters pretend that their murdered employer is still alive. To accomplish their ruse they are forced to prop up and animate the dead body in numerous situations. Adam claims we created our own scene from "Weekdays at Bob's" on Monday. When I finished dialysis my blood pressure was low. After drinking some fluid and resting, my blood pressure rose to an acceptable level and I was released from the dialysis center although I was still feeling puny. In the car I drank more water and reclined the seat back.

When we arrived home Adam was there to pick up his children. He came to the car as Patra was getting the kids out. When I stood up, my world began to spin and fade. I told Patra I was faint and she called out to Adam. I passed out and when I came to, Patra and Adam filled me in on what had happened. When I passed out, Adam caught me, and he and Patra carried me from the driveway into the house. Adam held my shoulders and upper body and Patra lifted my legs. When they got me in the door, they remembered the little ones were outside, so they ran through the house and deposited me on the couch. Adam was convinced that if any neighbors saw "the body" being transported into the house, the police would soon be arriving. They deny it, but my back says I "fell" onto the couch. If only we had filmed it. We might have gone viral.

Once again I was protected from any injuries when I passed out. God is good.

Thursday night we went to Andrew's first little league game of the spring season. How exciting to see so many boys and girls learning to play baseball under the lights.

Patra held Megan (2) so she enjoyed the evening also. Andrew has improved so much. In many ways it seems like a hundred years ago that I was in the Bone Marrow Transplant unit at Moffitt Cancer Center and missed Andrew's very first T-ball game. (It was only two years ago.) Jenny brought me a video in the hospital. It is much better to be there in person.

Two years ago, I don't believe anyone (including my doctors) thought I would feel as good as I do and be able to go to a game. I need to be very careful not to hurt myself when I pass out and I am working on my mobility. My new walker is wonderful but I would love to be able to walk without assistance.

(James 5:16b KJV) "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

When I was a young boy I memorized this verse. While I had no idea what the words effectual, fervent or availeth meant, my teachers did instill a sense of what the verse means. It is easier to understand in a different translation.

(James 5:16b HCSB). "The urgent request of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect. "

Patra and I know that we are where we are because of the "urgent requests" that have been made on our behalf. We again thank you for your prayers on our behalf. They mean so much. There are so many people that we need to be urgently praying for.

Dear God: I thank you for the goodness you have shown to me. Thank you once again for protecting me from injury. Thank you that I am able to enjoy my family. No matter what tomorrow brings I want to be faithful to you. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Until next Friday. God willing.
Bob

Thanks, Bob, for our laugh for the day. We forgot that yesterday was Friday; all of a sudden a minute ago, we both said we forgot yesterday was BLOG DAY!!
Thanks for the photos and reminders of fun times.
Hopefully, we will be seeing our younger grandsons playing soccer really SOON.
We continue to pray, praise and love,
Lex and Linda

Sorry, I didn't get to the blog earlier, your wit and wisdom and sense of humor is what it takes to get thru the tough times. I remember that movie well. We do look like "limp wash rags" when we faint and so glad Adam was there to catch you. Patra, bless your heart. So glad you could enjoy the baseball experience with your grandson; I remember those days when Matt played and I am sure Zachary will play soccer. I picked him up Friday night (took 3 hours to get to Orlando) so really tired after working all day and standing on my feet. But playing with him is a different and "good kind of tired". Getting ready to take him back shortly; a girlfriend is going with me since Ted is starting to feel some effects of the kidney stone moving.
Take care my friends and sorry I missed you in Sunday School.

Dear Bob...
I "stumbled" onto your website this a.m.. Of course I do believe that sometimes the experiences we call "coincidences" are truly not happenstance.
I am not ure where I picked up your story (maybe 2010?). I was searching the web and was looking for images pertaining to the Word of God for a blog that I write on Thursdays. The name of the blog is Kingdom Bloggers and I am one of 7 writers who contribute each week. We have a "subject/theme" each week and we each write on it, on our particular day.
There are 5 women and 2 men who write. We live across the U.S. and 1 lives in Canada.
If you access our site, I think you will be blessed.
This week is " How Do You Study the Word of God?"...last week was "Write Your Own Eulogy"...another "What Person in the Bible Would You Like to Meet?"
I wanted to tell you how blessed I have been reading your blog this a.m. I haven't read all of it, but enough to get the essence of who you are...a strong man of God, who trusts God and leans hard on Him. A man who is vulnerable and honest and doesn't in any way talk "Christianese" but rather in simple langue of the heart that people can understand. That is so refreshing!
What a beautiful wife that you have and the union and love that you have for one another is so evident. I know if the tables were turned, you would care for Patra, as she has cared for you.
Also what a delightful family you have. Wonderful, giving children who cherish you. Also, I am in agreement with you that grandchildren are the BEST! We have 2...a granddaughter (6) and grandson (3).
I plan to continue to follow your blog from now on.
I also wanted to tell you that I am going to put your name on an online Prayer List that I have belonged to for years. People from all over the world pray.
Also, my husband and I will pray for you and when I go to church on Sunday, I will ask for personal prayer, as I stand in proxy for you.
Lord, you have never left this man...who is not just a man but a beloved son of yours. You knew Bob from his very beginnings in his mother's womb. You know him better than he even knows himself. I ask that you enfold him in Your loving arms where he can hide in the safety and the shadow of Your wings. Encourage him and speak tender word of mercy and grace. Lord, You are a healing God...we ask that You would perform a miracle for this man. I know beyond a shadow of doubt that he would give You all the praise and glory. As he takes things "one day at a time" give him strength and stamina...physically, emotionally and spiritually. around his wonderful wife and his children with Your peace and your presence. May each one, in their own way, literally sense Your lovingkimdness and Your care of Bob and of each member of their family. Put Bob on the minds of people when he needs an urgent prayer. You love him beyond measure and I just believe Lord that You want him to know just how proud you are of him. Help him to keep believing...keep loving...and keep using his great sense of humor.
Amen and amen
