"Beginning Dialysis"

(Friday, December 17, 2010) “Beginning Dialysis"
I can definitely make things interesting. We returned home from Minnesota last Wednesday. Friday, I developed severe lower quadrant pain and we called EMS. I was admitted to the local hospital until Sunday. I had really hoped to stay out of hospitals a little longer.

It appears after many tests and examinations that nothing had “broken down” and the pain was a “normal” part of the recovery from my abdominal surgery in Minnesota.

Speaking of Minnesota, boy, did we get out right in time. It is much better watching a blizzard on the weather channel from the comfort of my recliner than the window of a hotel. I can barely handle the cold weather we have had in Clearwater. The low 30s are bad. Below zero is ridiculous!

These have been difficult days for Patra and me as we try to adjust to a new normal – dialysis three times per week. We again solicit your prayers and ask that you “not grow weary in well doing.” Please keep praying for us! Numerous times THIS WEEK God has demonstrated His love to us through your prayers, cards, visits, e-mails, etc. God showed His love to us through His visitation to earth – I’m so glad He didn’t forget us. We appreciate the fact the you haven't forgotten us.

I am hooked up to a dialysis machine for 4 hours/3 days a week so much of our time is spent preparing for, traveling to, and receiving dialysis. It is a much more difficult adjustment than I thought it would be. I am exhausted at the end of dialysis.

Over the next several days we have a number of important visits with doctors. These are my first meetings with them since my return from Mayo. I am really interested in their input into this RARE AND RADICAL WORLD.

The grandkids continue to be great therapy – no matter how difficult a day may be, their antics and stories bring smiles.

Christmas really is about the best GIFT that was ever given. God sent His Son - the greatest gift that was ever given. Wise men brought GIFTS. What gift can I bring this year?

I’ve asked Jenny to send a Christmas card to everyone through the blog next week and to include pictures.

Until next Friday. God willing.

Bob: It is so good to hear from you! You continue to bless us through your blog and am so grateful that you are willing to share with us and we understand what we are praying for when you let us know the "desires of your heart". Your whole world takes a different turn when you are diagnosed with a "nasty little disease" but your heart continues to share the love of Christ and what a difference He can make in our lives.

I also understand the importance of family and friends and the love of your family emits from your soul and we are so blessed to be part of your extended family, the family of Christ! We will continue to pray for comfort and healing and the dialysis to be smooth and quickly settle into a "routine".

We love you brother and sister and wish you the merriest Christmas, enjoy your children and grandchildren and celebrate the birth of our Savior!

Good Morning, Buggs,
Bob, it is great to hear from you today. We can not imagine what the weather was like in MN for a Florida man like you. We are having colder than normal weather for this time of the year here in TN; boy have those snuggies felt good.
We too are so very glad that GOD didn't forget us; that he gave HIS very BEST for us in the form of Jesus Christ to come to this sin filled world to save us from eternal damnation. We hope people remember the real reason that we celebrate Christmas.
Bob, never fear, we pray constantly for God's working in your body every single day and also we pray that HE will give you and Patra every single thing that you need every single minute. We will never stop praying, be sure of that.
Bob, we are now praying for your adjustment to the dialysis and to the routine. We pray that God continues to wrap you in HIS love and the knowledge that HE is right there beside you every minute.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
Remember, we love you both and carry you in our hearts.
We continue pray and praise on your behalf.

Dear Bob,
Happy Belated birthday. Not that we weren't thinking of you all day on Thurs. but I have to confess I wasn't organized and didn't get a card off to you in time.
We have a tradition in our family where we celebrate birthdays for at least a week because invariably something happens on the exact day of the b'day and so the celebration takes places many times over the course of the birthday week. Keep celebrating.
Please know that you and Patra are very much a part of our daily prayer and thoughts and if we could mow some of the tall weeds we would. God has surely given us a love for you and your family.
