Sometimes You're the "Bugg"

March 1, 2010

(from Jenny)

You know, I love the title of my dad's blog, but before he settled on "A Cheerful Heart is Good Medicine", there were a few other contenders.

For instance, someone in the family thought we should call the blog, "Bob's Bug". We also considered the lyrics to the Mary Chapin Carpenter tune "The Bug", which points out that...

"Sometimes you're the windshield.
Sometimes you're the bug."

This week, my dad's doctors expect him to feel a little less like the windshield, a little more like the bug.

His counts are dropping each day, and this leaves him tired and nauseous. But he has good moments, too. The swelling seems to have dissipated a bit, and the doctors this morning were pleased with what they saw in that regard. This means the regimen of diuretics will continue for now.

I was able to visit him briefly today (something I am not at liberty to do very often. I have 2 children under five years old, which means my house is a GERM FACTORY most of the time).

Brightly colored family photos adorn the walls of his room, along with every card he's received. And today, when the doctors came in for their "rounds", we were watching home movies of my Andrew's first t-ball game on the television (Yes, he made the doctors watch a little, too!).

And speaking of baseball, the lyrics of "The Bug" song make another comparison that I'll leave you with for now.

"Sometimes, you're the Louisville Slugger.
Sometimes, you're the ball."

Dad, we're all praying that you knock this one out of the park! And soon!

Thanks, Jenny, for the update. Now, we can sleep better tonight having heard the news. Go away extra fluid!!!!!
Bob, Patra, we are praying that the old "nasty bugs" will be totally zonked.
Keep hanging in there.
Remember, we are all praying as we make that chain to the other side with you.

We miss you both.

Thanks for the update. I look forward to it daily. Yes, there will be days that you feel like the wind has been knocked out of your sails. Rest and don't overdo and hopefully they are giving you the antinausea medicine before you become nauseated. I am sure they will be keeping close tabs on your counts and there are things they can do for the low counts. Hang in there, we all will be "blowing" for the winds to pick up your sails shortly!!

Bob, we have continued to follow your pilgrimage thru Carol and Heyward, and your blogs.

Our intercession to the Father in your behalf will not cease.

We were especially happy for your "reunion" with Thom and Chobe. Thanks for the good word about WFBPC. It still means much to us.

The Lord will bless . . . !

Bob and Patra,
Larry and I are still here with you and the rest of the family. We look forward to the Friday posts to check in and know how to pray and what has taken place in the preceeding week.
Bob, though our weeds are unlike yours, you continue to lead the way of the walk. We too have listened to the changes God has for us and are trying to be faithful in the giving up. I cannot put words to the comparison because there are none from your journey to ours but I want you to know that many many times we look at your situation and see how God is using you all to his glory and it puts us in the right place in our hearts to keep walking forward.
Actually, this place is a better place for us.
We want to tell you again how much we love and miss you and that we carry you in our hearts and in our prayers constantly.
Love,
Larry and Mary

Hi Bob and Patra,
Normandy and I pray for you guys each night, asking God to encourage, and pour his blessings into every nook and cranny of your lives. I tried to call the phone, that was working when we chatted in May or so, and it wasn't working. I was going to drop off a complimentary copy of the new Illustra Media DVD -- "Metamorphosis: The Beauty and Design of Butterflies." Just need to coordinate (time/date/address). Just email at twoodward@trinitycollege.edu...or call the phone you have used in the past...

Love,
The Woodwards

Bob, We think of you and pray for you often. You and Patra and your family have shown such courage during this long dark tunnel experience. We are so thankful that there is a bright and shining future for you and that means everything.
May God continue to sustain you and give you a real sense of His Presence every moment. Love,

I was curious if you ever thought of changing the structure of your site?
Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in
the way of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 images.

Maybe you could space it out better?

I'm not sure why but this blog is loading incredibly slow for me. Is anyone else having this issue or is it a issue on my end? I'll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
