The Facts

Update from Emily

(March 25, 2010)

We all have different gifts... and different writing styles...

Jenny is wonderful at turning a situation into a word story or devotional. My Dad is just funny. I am good at providing you with pictures and facts. So, until Dad has internet access again - and until Jenny's life slows down a bit... here we go - here are the facts.

Mom and Dad finally got a decent night of sleep last night! Yeah! They spent the morning at the hospital meeting with doctors and getting blood work done for Dad. He is doing well - continuing to move at a turtle's pace for his numbers, but slow and steady.

Unfortunately, Dad's amyloidosis took a huge toll on his kidneys before his original diagnosis. He met with a nephrologist yesterday morning who has him on a new, very strict diet and some experimental treatment for his kidney failure.

This new diet places mom in a new role - cooking everything from scratch. All salt needs to be eliminated from Dad's diet - and we are quickly discovering how much salt is added to EVERYTHING! Mom spent the afternoon at the grocery store - reading labels of spaghetti sauces before eventually just starting from scratch.

After their appointments, Mom and Dad returned to their new apartment. This apartment has a beautiful lake view and Dad was even able to take about 300 steps around the lake.

So, as my three-year-old told me the other day when I was impatient in traffic... "Slow and Steady wins the race, Mom."

And...to my three year old I write: "Austin, although I wish you didn't talk to me like you were thirty instead of three - you are right."

"Slow and Steady wins the race, Grandpa!" Keep it up.

And here is a new picture of that precious three-year-old. Just because I am good at adding things like that :)

What good words; a good night's sleep. Those good nights will be so good for the healing process. Yes, salt, such a culprit and there are some "no salt added" but also still need to check the sodium on every label. Some stores now have "sections" or health food stores.
Slow & steady; that sounds right and so glad they have a "relaxing view"; nothing better than looking at water & nature.
Take care all and have a good day!

I love Emily's analysis of the family's writing styles. She's right on the mark, and I like to read them all. Eliminating salt and cooking from scratch- a challenge but wouldn't we all be better off if we all did that! My prayers will continue that Bob continues to move forward. Enjoy the lake, pretending that it's your backyard pool.

Oh, thanks so MUCH for the updates from all of you. We need the wonderful views of each person.
Austin is a wise little guy. I suppose he has heard that little saying before. He listens and remembers well, doesn't he?
Well, if anyone can do the food correctly without salt, Patra can do it. She can do so many things well. She will manage to get the job done just right.
Bob,enjoy that lake view and the walks every day. We will visualize your walking around the lake there while we are walking the hills up here in TN.
We continue to PRAY and PRAISE God for the work that HE is doing.
Love you,
Lex and Linda

So happy to hear the great news that you got "kicked out" of the hospital !! Isee detemination in your face in that picture a few days ago. (I thought) I left a comment a yeaterday but saw where it was nowhere to be seen --- so somewhere in cyberspace there's a message sending all of you my love and good wishes -- and a belated HBirthday to Patra( Hope all goes well with your new cooking style. We could all benefit from that!) Take care and enjoy those nights not being in the hospital -- hoping soon it will be in your own bed!
Love, Mary Lib
